It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Louis Serotta, at 101 years and 7 months of age. Lou, as most people called him, was born in New York City. He was a child of the depression era.
He was a merchant in the Raleigh/Cary area and eastern North Carolina for almost 70 years. In that time he had thousands of happy customers.
Dad started work at age 11 selling peanuts at Yankee Stadium. He had a photography business at age 15 traveling in and around NYC.
Lou met the love of his life at the Kentucky Derby. He married Nell while still in the Marine Corps in 1942. He was a WWII veteran.
Lou is survived by his three children, Diane Serotta Hill of Cincinnati, Ohio and Janet and Barbara Serotta of Cary. Also granddaughter Jennifer Johnson (Craig) of Cincinnati, Ohio and two great granddaughters, Karinne Hill and Abigail Gross. He is also survived by a special nephew, Arnold Kohen, and cousin Florence Gross.
Lou is predeceased by his wife Nell (1998), parents Gustave and Anna Serotta of New York, sister Ruth, and brother Irving and son-in-law Kyle Hill.
There will be a graveside service Wednesday May 19, 2021 at 1:00pm. It will be at the Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, 450 N. State Street in downtown Raleigh 27601. Friends and customers are most welcome.
We would also like to say a special thank you to dad’s caregivers, Keyonda, Joyce, Susan, and especially Donovan Hylton for all their care and compassion.
