

Madelene Sharkey Fisher, 95, a resident of Springmoor Retirement Community of Raleigh, NC peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. She was born on October 30, 1917 in Niles, Ohio to John and Teresa Boyle Sharkey.
Madelene was for many years a dedicated and innovative Girl Scout leader and a couture-class seamstress who made her own and her daughters’ clothes. She taught classes in furniture re-upholstery and volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels and the St. Joseph Hospital Service League in Warren, OH. She and her husband Bob built their lovely home, doing most of the work themselves. Madelene enjoyed swimming, dancing, reading, gardening and a good political discussion.
Madelene is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert C. Fisher; sisters, Ruth Sharkey, Mary Alice Hall and Jeanne Dister; brothers, Jack and William Sharkey.
Madelene is survived by daughters, Janice Long and husband Gary of Arlington, VA, Marcia Madigan and husband John of Raleigh, NC and Terry Frantz and husband Bill of Lancaster, PA; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and numerous other loving family members.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC. Interment will be held at a later date at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio.
