2025, at the age of 89. She was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on November 23, 1935, to the late Charlie Bridges and Maude Satterfield.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mammy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Wesley Stevens and Laura Murosky (Tony); her grandchildren, Lauren Setzer (Cliff) and Forrest Murosky (Taylor); and her beloved great-grandchildren, Forrest Jr. Murosky (7), Nora Marguerite Setzer (6), Oliver Murosky (5), and Lola Setzer (3)—her sunshines.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husbands, Thad Stevens and James Speed, as well as her sisters, Edna Knicely, Wilma Crayton, and Anne Capps. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, along with David Redd, her devoted "bodyguard."
She was a proud graduate of Hugh Morson High School and a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mammy worked for the Employment Security Commission until her retirement in November 1989, when she fully embraced her most treasured role—being a full-time grandmother. She had a zest for life, from dancing with Triangle Singles to traveling the country in an RV, visiting Paris, cruising the Caribbean, and making memories at the beach. She loved playing Rummikub, Rummy, Goldfish, and working on puzzles with her family.
A true patriot, Marguerite adored both her home state of North Carolina and her country. She loved everything red, white, and blue, as well as North Carolina’s state symbols—the cardinal and the dogwood.
Marguerite’s love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
