

Marian King Pollard, 87, of Raleigh, died peacefully in her sleep at Universal Healthcare- North Raleigh on December 30, 2016. She was born August 19, 1929 in Vance County to the late Courtney and Doris King. Marian was preceeded in death by her husband Joe Pollard; their marriage blessed to last 51 years. She was also preceeded in death by a brother, Aubrey King and a sister, Mildred King.
Marian had a long and distinguished teaching career, with many years at Millbrook High School teaching sophomore English/Writing. She taught and influenced thousands of students to be better writers and young adults. Marian loved her family, especially her grandchildren; she was also a long time member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Her farm upbringing led to a love of flower gardening and she always loved dogs, especially her beloved poodles Whit and Tucker.
Survivors include two sons; Bill Pollard of Raleigh and Joe Pollard, Jr. and his wife Jan, of Greenville, SC. Her beloved grandchildren are Kevin Pollard of Greenville, SC; Caroline Morris and her husband Nicholas of Denver, CO; and Andrew “Lock” Pollard of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving her is a sister Katherine West and family of Granville County, NC and two brothers; Vernard King and family of Oxford, NC and Curtis King and family of Franklin County. She will be loved, remembered, and missed forever by her loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church 1725 North New Hope Road at 2:30pm on Saturday, January 7, 2017. Family visitation will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall from 1:00pm to 2:30 before the service. Burial to follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park on Glenwood Avenue.
