Throughout her life, she was a dedicated caregiver – as a mother, a grandmother, a physician, a friend, a volunteer.
Eunice was born in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, in the Republic of the Philippines on June 21, 1941. She met her husband, Benjamin Yu Tan, of 30 years when she was just 10 years old. They were married in the San Carlos Cathedral Church on June 6, 1965. Together they raised four daughters while building a life together in New York – starting in the Bronx, then to Yonkers and then Scarsdale.
After finishing medical school and marrying in the Philippines, Eunice and her husband immigrated to the United States in 1965. They settled in New York where she practiced medicine for more than 35 years. She retired as the Medical Director of St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Yonkers, NY.
Eunice was a loving mother and grandmother who retired to Raleigh, NC in 2007. In retirement, she focused on her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also an avid gardener and volunteered in her neighborhood welcome committee.
She is survived by her four daughters: Jennifer Liptrot (Mike), Stephanie Styons (Ray), Kathleen Yu (Jung) and Vikki-Rose Tunick (Marc) all in North Carolina; her nine grandchildren: William Liptrot, Rebecca Liptrot, Lily Styons, Benjamin Yu, Daniel Yu, Shane Styons, Avery Tunick, Maximus Styons, and Ryder Tunick; and her sister Alice Jane Bautista of the Philippines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and her brother, Salvador Rigor, Jr. of the Philippines.
The family will receive friends at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church on Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh, Thursday September 1 from 10:00-11:00 am. The funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am, at the church with a private family interment at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
