Mario was born September 27, 1928 in Guayaquil, Ecuador to Armondo de la Torre and Aurora Mena. He was a professional soccer player in Ecuador. Mario was a veteran of the US Army. He worked as a radio operator; export agent; and at Macy’s Department Store in Harold Square in New York, NY.
Mario is survived by sons, Ronald de la Torre and his wife, Maria of Raleigh; and Andrew de la Torre and his wife, Pam of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; and one great grandson.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
