Martha W. Lackey, fondly known as “Chippy”, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016. Born in Charlottesville, VA, she lived most of her adult life in Alexandria, VA, Crofton, MD, and McLean, VA, before moving to Cary, NC in 2015.
She attended St. Anne’s School in Charlottesville, VA, and Salem College in Winston Salem, NC. She was an avid and excellent duplicate bridge player.
Her passion was for bridge, but her love was for her daughter, Carter P. Lackey, and her son, William D. Lackey IV, who survive her. She is also survived by a sister, Imogen W. Poole (Samuel H.) of Raleigh, NC, and her ex-husband, William D. Lackey III, of Shelby, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emerson and Imogen Waldman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Duke Cancer Center or Transitions LifeCare.
