He was born on August 20, 1920 in Chesterfield, Indiana, to the late Jesse M. and Eunice Hook.
Martin served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II on the USS LST-22. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and was an active Rotarian.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Elizabeth Andrews Hook.
He is survived by his children; Cynthia Ann Redmond (Robert) of Seminary, MS., Richard Lee Hook (Julie) of Alexandria, LA, Frank Daniel Hook (Roberta) of Milford, KS, and Jane Stafford of Raleigh; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday, July 15, 2011 at 2:00pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, NC. His family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
