Molly Grace Green was born on September 6, 1950, in Kingston, Jamaica. She grew up in Vineyard Town and later moved to Duhaney Park. She attended Merl Grove High School. She met the love of her life, her beloved husband, Lionel “Mini” Green, at the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). Their love story began simply, as neighbors, and from that foundation of friendship and faith, a lifelong partnership was formed.
At the age of 20, Molly immigrated to the United States in 1970. Not long after, in 1971, she returned to Jamaica with her husband, where they built their life together on Surbiton Road. Years later, in 1999, they made the journey together once more, immigrating to North Carolina, where she continued to build a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Molly had a heart for giving. She loved to volunteer through her church and was always thinking of others. She carried small care packages in her car, ready to give to anyone in need she encountered. She constantly sent packages to friends and family in the USA and Jamaica. She never missed a birthday. That was who she was. She did not wait to be asked; she simply gave.
Molly also knew how to truly enjoy life. She had an infectious laugh and a playful spirit; she loved a good joke and lived for the moments where she could make her loved ones smile. She loved going out to eat, whether it was trying a variety of dishes at buffet restaurants or sitting down for a nice à la carte meal. She enjoyed exploring different cuisines from Chinese to Indian. And of course, a visit to the Golden Corral. And no matter where she went, she always made sure to have something sweet to eat. That little touch of sweetness was something she never passed up.
Her family meant everything to her. She loved deeply and gave freely, always showing up. Always supporting, always caring. If you were part of her family, you knew you were loved.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley DaCosta; her mother, Evelyn DaCosta; her siblings Gay DaCosta, Valerie Stephenson, Winston V. DaCosta, Kenneth DaCosta, Wesley DaCosta, Phyllis DaCosta, Howard DaCosta, and her niece Angelique Barker.
She leaves her dear ones to cherish her memory including her husband Lionel Green; her sister Ruby Barker, her brother Roger DaCosta; her sister Cheryl Burnett and a large and loving family of nieces and nephews: Donna Barker, LeRoi Stephenson, Farrah Stephenson, Tsahai Jumah, Ronnie Stephenson, Daniel Burnett, Nathaniel Burnett, Tahir DaCosta, Omari DaCosta, Nefertari Burnett, Jamique Mascall, Cleo Mascoll, Andrew Taylor, Ariela Burnett, Tabitha Burnett, Kayla Stephenson, Mei-Li Burnett, Kara Stephenson, Korey Stephenson, Amina Jumah, Milaya Jumah, Koelyn Stephenson, Kylo Jumah, Ivy Mascoll, Micah DaCosta, Alaska Taylor, Asher Mascoll and Gracie DaCosta, Audrey DaCosta, Anthony DaCosta, Cheryl DaCosta, Richard DaCosta, Omar DaCosta, Rachel DaCosta.
Molly’s life was one of love, generosity, and quiet strength. She showed us what it means to care for others, to stay connected to family, and to live with an open heart. Though she is no longer with us physically, her love remains in each of us, in the memories we share and in the lives she touched. May we carry her spirit forward in the way we love, the way we give, and the way we show up for one another.
