

Murray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and successful businessman who touched and encouraged many lives. Born in Manhattan to Yetta Goldstein and Benjamin Bonder he graduated from James Madison High School at 16, then attended Casey Jones School Of Aeronautics. He later served his beloved country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Afterward, he returned to New York City and worked his way up in the garment industry. He married his first wife, Anne Sylvia Frankel, in 1947. They and their two children moved to Smithfield, North Carolina, in 1957 where he joined the Jerold Corporation as vice-president. He achieved partner status at Jerold before leaving to start his own garment business in Dunn, N.C. Beginning with 6 people, Bonders Inc grew to a national supplier with 500 employees providing employment opportunities to many in the Dunn area. After retiring from business, Murray and his second wife Carol lived in Florida and traveled extensively. In 1992, they moved back to North Carolina and settled in Raleigh.
He loved spending time with his family, was generous, giving, and always persevered. He will be missed for his wise counsel, great sense of humor, masterful storytelling, and tremendous love of life. He was always admired for his honesty, intelligence, and business savvy. He loved golf and deep sea fishing and was a superb dancer. He is predeceased by brother Bernie Bonder. He is survived by his wife Carol; his children Saniel Bonder (Linda) and Ellen Lohr, stepchildren Julie DiMurro (Tony) and Doug Melton (Mitzi); grandchildren Daniel and Annie Lohr, and stepgrandchildren Harrison and Hillary Melton. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mitchell Heflin and Duke Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Duke Pulmonology and/or Duke Geriatrics in honor of Dr. Mitchell Heflin.
A celebration of his life will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Rd, Raleigh NC on Sunday July 10th at 2:00pm.
