

Paul Thomas Stowers was born January 16, 1938 to George Washington and Ruby Payton Stowers. He was the sixth child with five older and five younger siblings. He grew up and attended school in Louisville, Kentucky, after which he honorably served in the United States Air Force for eight years. After leaving the military, he worked several jobs before being hired by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, which was merged with the CSX Railroad in 1980, leading to Paul relocating with his family to Jacksonville, Florida. He spent over thirty years as a payroll analyst before retiring in 2001.
After retirement, he and his wife, Marie, moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to be close to family.
Paul was a man of great faith who loved the Lord and served Him faithfully throughout his life.
From deacon and Sunday school teacher, to choir member, RA leader, class president, and committee member for many different bodies, Paul was known for his faithful service and beautiful prayers.
As a young man Paul became an avid bowler and spent many years playing in leagues where he carried an impressive average. His love of sports also included supporting his favorite team, the Kentucky Wildcats. When his sons showed a love for sports, he often coached their teams or was there to cheer them on through the years.
Paul was beloved by family and friends. His jovial personality, his great hugs and his caring ways endeared him to all who knew him. He is survived by the love of his life, Marie Cook Stowers. They were married for over 63 years and had known each other for 70 years. He also has two wonderful and loving sons, Brian Paul (Alex) Stowers and Mark Alan (Laura) Stowers; nine grandchildren, Amber (Connor) Autry, Alyssa (Colton) Lakhicharran, Mayson Stowers, Luke (Sarah) Stowers, Claire Stowers, John Mark Stowers, Christoper (Amy) Gala, Anthony Gala, and Brittany Gala; four great grandchildren, Cooper and Carter Autry, Maeve Stowers, and Noah Gala; siblings Douglas (Carol) Stowers, Mary (Bernard) Thomas, Elizabeth (James) Easley, and Gary (Diann) Stowers; brother-in-law Charles (Chuck) Cook, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by George (Gladys) Stowers, William (Shirlene) Stowers, Narvin (Marianne) Stowers, Edna Stowers, Dorothy (David) Sandlin, and Arthur (Joann) Stowers.
Paul's Celebration of Life service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Saturday, May 9, 2026, with a visitation at 10:00-11:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m.
