It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Phillip Boyd Pearson, who went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2026, at the age of 84.
Phil was born in Roanoke Rapids, NC, in 1954 to Eugene and Agnes Pearson.
Following high school, Phil served a 2-year stint in the Army, then 2 years at Chowan College, where he met his love, Elizabeth “Betty Jean” Crawford. Following Chowan, he attended and graduated from East Carolina University in 1967. He and Betty Jean were married that year and remained happily married for 53 years until her death in 2020.
In Raleigh, they were founding members of Christ Chapel and long-time and active members of North Haven Church. During retirement, they were active with First Baptist Church of Merritt Island in Florida, where Phil taught Sunday School classes and participated in many ministries, including a seafarer’s ministry, a food ministry for the needy, and visiting the elderly and hospitalized.
After returning to Raleigh in 2011, they enjoyed fellowship at Redeemer Presbyterian Church until his own sickness no longer made that possible.
Phil was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He cherished his family and lived his life with faith, kindness, and strength.
He is survived by his children, David and Michael, and grandchildren Matthew, Caroline, and Michael Tre, and many others who loved him dearly.
We find comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of his Savior and reunited with our mother Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held at North Haven Church on May 30th, 2026, at 10:30 am
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Raleigh-Area Concerts of Prayer (www.racop.org) or The Haven Missionary Care Center (Facebook or at their website: missionarycarecenter.org).
