
Rick was born in Schenectady, New York on March 15, 1957 to William and Bettye Peck, both deceased. His sister, Linda Peck, of Levittown, PA, also preceded him in death.
He was valedictorian of his graduating class at Draper High School in Schenectady, NY, and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) where he received a Master’s degree in Math and Computer Science. Rick worked for General Electric from 1980 through 1987 in Schnectady, NY. Bridgeport, CT and Plymouth, FL, as a founding and technical principal of GE Robotics and Vision Systems. In 1987 he incorporated Sirius Cybernetics Corporation, an industrial automation systems concern. In 1990, he worked for GE Ericsson (later Sony-Ericsson) in Lynchburg, VA and Research Triangle Park in Raleigh, NC, during which he also spent time as an expat in Lund, Sweden. In 2012, he worked in software development with Research In Motion in Raleigh and later took a position as IT security and product manager with Branch Bank & Trust, later Truist, from which he retired.
Rick was married to Pamela Taylor on September 2, 2001. They were married for 25 years. Rick greatly enjoyed golf, video games, crossword and Sudoku puzzles, poker, and was an avid fan and season ticket holder of the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team. He was an active member and Deacon of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, and sang in their choir. He had a passion for traveling, living abroad in Italy, France and Sweden. He was widely known for his intellectual wit, and will greatly be missed by family and friends.
Rick is survived by his wife, Pam, his stepdaughters; Leslie (Dave) Mullins of Annapolis, MD, and her children Devon, Christian, and Madoc Mullins; Anna Taylor of Raleigh, NC and her children Braedon Weaver and Mary Dunn; and Ferne (Ben)Emery of Kernesville, NC and her children Will and Maggie Emery. He was fondly known among family as “Papa Rick”.
A celebration of life service will be held on August 29, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 7506 Falls of Neuse Rd. Raleigh, NC 27615. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 7506 Falls of Neuse Rd. Raleigh, NC 27615
