Robert Edwin Ferrone

Bob was born on July 30, 1933 to Anna Sauerbrunn and Anthony Ferrone in Akra, NY. He lived in Manhattan, NY until the age of 17, when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and later served in the Korean War.

While on military leave at Carolina Beach, NC, Bob met the love of his life Janet Lynam. Bob and Jan recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

Bob was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was considered a father figure to many of those who he touched in his life.

“Wolfpack Bob” was the voice of the NC State Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Team for 27 years. He was an avid supporter of Special Olympics and the National Inclusion Project, which advocates inclusion for children with special needs. He coached baseball for many years through the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department. He was a former JV basketball coach, Athletic Director, and fundraiser at Cardinal Gibbons High School. He retired from G.E. Mortgage Company in 1994 as an Event Coordinator.

He is survived by his loving wife Jan, his son James Ferrone and wife Gwen of Fuquay, NC, his daughter Kristal Huller and husband Gary of Raleigh, NC, and grandchildren Jennifer, John, Jamie, and Kasey, and also his great-grandchildren Matthew and Jordan.

A funeral mass to celebrate Bob’s eternal life with God will be held 11 am Friday, July 29, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Drive in Raleigh, NC. A reception will immediately follow at the Our Lady of Lourdes Fallon Center. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC.

The interment will take place at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612 at 2:00 p.m. following the reception.

The family has request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the North Carolina Special Olympics (http://www.sonc.net/) or the National Inclusion Project (http://www.inclusionproject.org/)
