RALEIGH, N.C.⸺Roger Bradley Honeycutt, age 90, of Raleigh, N.C., passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2026, with his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Beck Honeycutt, by his bedside. He spent the evening before his passing surrounded by his loving family and close friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Roger was born on December 11, 1935, in Willow Springs, N.C., to Vernon and Marie Honeycutt, the eldest of two sons. He and his brother, Jerry, were raised on the family farm, where hard work and family shaped the man he would become. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Roger played baseball for the Tar Heels and remained a devoted Carolina fan throughout his life, holding season tickets to football games and carrying on a cherished family tradition of taking his family to cheer on their team.
Following his time at Chapel Hill, Roger went on to play one year in the Chicago White Sox organization, and then served his country in the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii. In the years that followed, he traveled with his sons to ballparks around the country, watching games and exploring the history of each stadium and the city surrounding it.
In his professional life, Roger retired from the State Employees Credit Union (SECU), where he built a career defined by integrity and service. He served many years as chairman of the board of the North Carolina Credit Union League, where he helped shape North Carolina Credit Unions as we know them today. He was a longtime member of the North Raleigh Civitan Club and Hayes Barton Baptist Church, through which he and Carolyn gave back to the communities they loved. He was also an avid golfer and traveler, and was featured in the News & Observer as The Tarheel of the Week on Sunday, Nov 5, 1989.
As a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Roger led by example. He attended every sporting event and academic milestone his children and grandchildren had, wrote them letters of encouragement, offered loving advice, and words of wisdom that will not be forgotten. He was known for his Southern charm, his quiet dignity, and a life well lived in the way he loved his family, treated others, and served his community.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn; his two sons, Stephen Bradley Honeycutt and Mark Coley Honeycutt, both of Raleigh, N.C.; his daughter-in-law, Amneris Solano, wife of Stephen; his grandchildren, Omar Bradley Honeycutt of Raleigh, N.C., Harrison Coley Honeycutt of Raleigh, N.C. and Lauren Elizabeth Honeycutt of Asheville, N.C.; his great-grandchildren, Sebastian Wood and Amber Schwell; Mark's partner, Amy McCurry; and his nephew, Steve Honeycutt, his wife, Mary Katherine, and their son, Seth.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Honeycutt, Jerry’s wife, Judy Honeycutt; and great-niece, MaryJane Honeycutt.
A celebration of life will be held at Browne-Wynne Funeral Home on Sunday, June 7, at 3:00 pm, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, 27609.
