Ronald Anthony Franzel (78), after a long battle with leukemia starting from 2012, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on June 24th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda, and his brother Ricky. He is survived by Ann his wife of 28+ years, his brother Roger (wife Patty), his sisters Judy Clifton (husband Mike) and Sandy Patz (husband Gordon) many nieces and nephew, great nieces and nephews, and cousins, as well as stepsons, Ted Robaczewski (wife Ruth), David Robaczewski (wife Susan) and grandchildren Katie Rizzo (husband Nicko, daughter Costanza), Grant Robaczewski, Marshall Robaczewski (Katherine), Bradley Robaczewski), and Kurt Robaczewski.
Ron was born in Ashland Wisconsin on November 8, 1943 to Anthony and Margaret Mary Franzel. He attended St. Agnes Catholic grade school and DePadua High School in Ashland until the family moved to Milwaukee in 1960 where he attended Custer High School. After graduation he attended Milwaukee Technical College for two years. In 1965 He went into the US Army and was stationed at Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks, Alaska until honorably discharged. He began his career in 1968 as a laboratory engineer at Square D Company in Milwaukee and was transferred to the Knightdale plant in 1987 and retired after 35 years. He was very active at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church from 1987 until his death. He attended The Bread of Life prayer group, helped establish the Perpetual Adoration chapel (open 24/7) and devotedly did an hour every week since the beginning, was extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, presented Life in the Spirit seminars, and involved in many other ministries. He was past president of Brentwood Exchange Club and was active in many Brentwood Community events.
The visitation (6 to 7) and prayer service (7 to 8) pm will be held at Brown Wynne Funeral Home on East Millbrook Road on June 30 and a Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC at 11 am on July 1, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Ron’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC.
We wish to thank Dr. Mark Yoffe and all the caregivers at Rex Cancer Center Clinic for their excellent compassionate care over all the years of his illness especially Mary who has been a receptionist for us since 2012..
A visitation for Ronald will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. A prayer service will occur Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
A funeral service will occur Friday, July 1, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes, 2718 Overbrook Drive, Raleigh, NC 27608. A graveside service will occur Friday, July 1, 2022 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
