

Rubens was born in São Lourenço, in the state of Espírito Santo, Brasil to Maximiano and Maria Rufina Ataíde. He lived the majority of his life in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro before moving to the United States. He and his family moved to New York in 1989 where they lived for 10 years before moving to Freehold, New Jersey. They lived there from July 1999 to September 2006 which is when he and his wife moved to Raleigh, NC. In NC, he built a stronger relationship with the missionaries from NC who lived in Brasil back in the 1970s and 80s, George and June Megill. He worked at Rex hospital where he built many friendships.
He is survived by his wife, Margareth Ataíde, his kids, Luciana Gray, Leticia DeOliveira and Rubens Ataíde Filho, his son in laws, Dean Gray and Paulo DeOliveira, his daughter in law Melisa Ataíde and his grand children, Gianna Ataíde, Lucas Ataíde, Victor DeOliveira and Sofia DeOliveira.
