Sarah “Jane” Bright was called home to the Lord on Saturday, January 12, 2019. She was born Sarah Jane Williams on October 6, 1923 at Norfolk Protestant Hospital to Dr. Stuart Dudley Williams, Sr (deceased 9/13/1958) and Mable Ulrich Grogg (deceased 3/27/1985). Her siblings are Anne Roberts, Martha Eike (deceased 4/15/2002), and Stuart Dudley, Jr (deceased 10/9/1982).
Jane grew up in Norfolk, VA, graduated Maury High School in 1941 and was employed by Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. from 1941 to 1946. She married Charles Earl Bright, Sr in 1943 and celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death on 8/6/1994. They raised three sons: Charles Earl, Jr, Morgan Dudley, and Mason Tayloe who gave them six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
As a teenager, Jane was active in Trinity Baptist Church in Norfolk and was active in the King’s Daughters service organization. After moving to Raleigh, NC in 1963 she was active in Trinity Baptist Church where she was librarian for several years and serving in other areas of the church. She was an active member of North Hills Club, a family swim and tennis club, working in many areas. Her hobbies were needlepoint, reading, bridge, and other card and board games. Jane was a devoted wife and mother.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday 1/15 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home at 1701 E. Millbrook Rd from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held there on Wednesday 1/16 at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at Montlawn Cemetery at 2911 S. Wilmington St. at 2:00.
