I met Shelby at Willie Mae Rock Camp in Brooklyn, NY. She was three years older than me, and a great inspiration in songwriting. She had a wonderful soul and a kind heart. My thoughts went out to her today and I'm sorry I didn't get to know her better. I apologize if this message seems strange but I just wanted to send love to her family though I never knew them personally. I am very sorry for your loss, fly high Shelby.

I'm so sorry this is so late, but the first true friend I have ever met on the first day of 6th grade, I will love you forever. I'm sorry that we grew apart and different throughout high school, but I will be ever thankful for such a kind and blessed soul in my life. Every day I miss you dearly.

I'm so sorry I couldn't make it home in time to see you off. We weren't the best of friends, but we were definitely friends. I could say anything to you. It still doesn't feel real, but I love you. I hope you see this. Rest easy

May you find comfort and strength through one another.  My daughter Samantha was one of Shelby's classmates.

My heart goes out to the Malatak family. I held a kinship with Shelby in our earlier years and recall her once telling me the quote, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain." This is a quote I will now carry with me forever, and I hope she is dancing her heart out at peace. I will keep Shelby's family and friends in my thoughts, and I send my deepest and warmest regards.

Though I'd graduated by the time she got to Sanderson, I remember seeing how she lit up the stage when I came back for the shows. Her voice was absolutely beautiful and I know how adored she was by our mutual friends. While I barely knew her, I know how much she meant to everyone she knew and I give my sincerest condolences to her family.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Malakak and Jake,

I did not know Shelby, but I was Jake's Paideia teacher at Sanderson.  I am so sorry to learn of Shelby's passing, and my heart hurts for all of you.  Please know that I am praying for you.

Shelby was an extraordinary  young lady and remains a beautiful soul. We miss her and what she would have accomplished in her future. Our hugs, tears and thoughts are with her and her family.

I didn't know Shelby,  but I know her grandparents Bob and Joan Bailey. Joan always spoke about Shelby so I felt like I knew her.  I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for your loss.  My prayers go out to the family and my the Lord give you peace always and carry you thru your time of sadness.

My daughter Alana told me she met Shelby this past summer and how sweet and kind she was as a person. Please find joy in knowing she  gave others happiness. Thinking of your family...

What we have once have enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes part of us. I have never had the pleasure of knowing Shelby however I feel I've gotten to know her in reading all the loving insights and remarks shared by so many and therefore the quote seems right on target.
