Skye was born to Timothy and Kellee Whonder on February 14, 2019 shortly before 5:00 am. Skye’s expected due date was May 31, 2019, but she was born at 24 gestational weeks weighing only 14.5 ounces. Despite her low birth weight, Skye demonstrated miraculous growth and development from where she began. Skye eventually grew from 14.5 ounces to nearly 10 pounds in weight. Her mother recalls moments like the first time Skye fully opened her eyes on February 26th and the first time she could do skin-to-skin contact on March 16th.
Skye was truly a miracle baby. For those that did not get to meet her, Skye was a ball of fun. She had beautiful, silky hair and big, beautiful eyes. She loved to smile, often even smiling while dreaming. She loved her toy octopus, named Marley. Her favorite activities were sleeping, cuddling with mom, and physical therapy with her toys. Her nursing team described her as “feisty” because she was so full of energy and spunk in spite of her circumstances.
Skye is survived by her father, Timothy; her mother, Kellee; her brother, Timothy Jr; her grandmother, Karen; her grandparents, Oswald and Harper-Jean; her great-grandmother, Hyacinth; and many uncles and aunties and cousins.
Skye’s journey ended sooner than hoped for, but her time with us was purposeful and impactful. Every prayer and thought on her behalf had meaning.
She will be greatly missed but she’s still our Skye. She’ll always be our Skye. She’ll always have her name and her place in our hearts.
