
Dr. Stanley Rubin Renas passed away after a long illness on February 14. He was born on Sept. 17, 1920 to Bertha and Morris Rubin in Mountaindale, NY. His early years were divided between Mountaindale and Brooklyn.
Dr. Renas was a WWII and Korean War veteran having served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. He was trained as a language specialist in the Intelligence Service. He was stationed in India during WW II and fought in Burma. He spoke many languages including French, Spanish, German, Italian, and native languages of India and the Philippines.
After the war he went to Columbia University and earned a Bachelors’ degree in Economics before returning to military duty during the Korean War.
In 1955, he married Gladys Green and adopted her two children, Susan and Stephen. He earned a Ph.D in Marketing at Georgia State University, and then pursued a career as a college professor at Universite Laval in Quebec City where he taught in French, Northeastern University in Chicago, and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.
His first wife died in 1974, and in 1984 he married Beatrice Misrok. They have lived together in Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville, and most recently in Raleigh. He retired in 1995 and celebrated his Bar Mitzvah at age 83 in Nashville. He loved to travel and read. He was very fond of his little Chihuahua, Linda.
Dr. Renas is survived by his wife Beatrice Renas; daughter and son-in-law Susan (David) Lips, Dr, Stephen Renas, Fern (Jerry) Sutton, Mark (Bill Smartt) Misrok, Lisa (John Bender) Misrok, 6 grand children and 7 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and sister Rose Rubin Roberts.
