

Thelma was a graduate of Gastonia High School and of Evans College of Commerce, Gastonia Campus. She retired after 25 years of service in the Marking and Repair Department at Duke University's Perkins Library. Thelma studied internationally, rose to the level of Master Hand Bookbinder and had been asked back to Duke after retirement for work on special collections. She operated a business in which she enjoyed spending time in the hand repair and restoration of old and rare books as well as teaching to preserve and advance the craft. Thelma was active with the P.E.O. and a longtime member of Parkview Baptist Church in Durham NC.
Thelma was predeceased by her son James H. George II and siblings: Robert Hinson, Sherman Hinson, Anderson Hinson, Parks Hinson, Pearl Hinson, Vernie Panther, Ellen Revels and Elizabeth Cleary.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years James H. George Sr of Raleigh NC, her children: John W. George and wife Elizabeth Delano of Alexandria, Va, Suzanne Cora George of Tampa, Fla, Julianne George Peatross and husband Michael of Raleigh NC, grandchildren, Taylor Peatross and James Peatross.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday October 25th, 2015 at 2pm at Parkview Baptist Church 2500 Acadia St Durham, NC 27704. Fellowship with family and friends will be immediately after the service in the Church Social Hall. In lieu of flowers a donation to: Transitions Lifecare 250 Hospice Circle Raleigh, NC 27607
