

Tony was born in Concord, North Carolina on December 2, 1938. He graduated from Concord High School in 1958 and was awarded a full football scholarship to Lenoir Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 1962. He played football and ran track all 4 years and his team played in 4 bowl games, winning the NAIA national team championship in 1960, to date the only LRU team to achieve this honor.
After college Tony accepted a teaching and coaching position at Statesville Senior High School where he coached all sports for 6 years. While coaching, his team won the NCHSAA State wrestling championship.
In 1969, Tony began his career in the forms sales field and moved with his family to Raleigh, North Carolina where he worked for Double Envelope Corporation and Sizemore Business Forms, establishing an entire new territory and distributorship in the forms sales business. In 1990, Tony established his own forms sales distributorship, McClamrock Business Forms, which he successfully operated until his retirement in late 2022.
Tony excelled in sports throughout high school and college and attained numerous awards and honors including Captain and Most Valuable Player awards. He remained interested and involved in sports his entire life, especially football and tennis.
In 2009 he was inducted into the Lenoir Rhyne University Sports Hall of Fame which inspired him to found and manage, in 2010, the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame in his home town of Concord, North Carolina. In 2019 Tony was inducted into the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rebecca Freeman McClamrock, children, Kellee D. and Todd M. McClamrock of Raleigh, NC, nieces Sharon Harward and Sandy Tilley and cousin, Daryl McClamrock, all of Cabarrus County. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Cagle McClamrock and Samuel Woodrow McClamrock, sisters, Nancy M. Livengood and June M. Tilley, and nephews, David Livengood and Eugene Livengood.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. Dr. David Hailey will officiate. Visitation will be held in the church parlor directly following the service. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home is providing arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cabarrus County Boys and Girls Club of Concord, NC.
Tony loved God, his family, his friends, and his country. His faith, perseverance, and loyalty remained steadfast throughout his life. His optimistic attitude never faltered.
