I just today learned, with shock and great sadness, of Virgil's passing. I knew Virgil in high school, and though we did not stay in touch over the years, I always had fond memories of him. My condolences to his family. -- Julie Daniel, AL Brown Class of 1970

On Virgil's birthday today and every day may you enjoy beautiful memories of your loved one. I was a classmate of his at Brown High School. He was the kindest of young men and I think we all knew he'd be successful in life. Reading these comments in the guest book leaves no doubt that he made his life count in all the right ways. I pray God's blessings and comfort will continue to rest on your family.

Linda and Sara, please know that Virgil was a special friend to me and all in the Video Ministry at Trinity Baptist Church. He will be in my heart forever. I only in his passing realized how much his friendship meant to me. We were all blessed by his life. As others have expressed, I hope that I will be fortunate to see him again some day, and hope that he knew and knows what he meant to me in my life. We in the TBC Video Ministry can not talk about him without major tears and sobbing. He will be greatly missed. Thanks to you both for his service to TBC.

I remember Virgil well from high school. He was already a wonderful photographer then and was one of our staff photographers for the school yearbook and newspaper. His family is

in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

Just learned about Virgil's passing. I had known him from Jackson Park and AL Brown days even though he was about 2 years younger than me (he was friends with my brother, Clyde). I got to reconnect with him in the 90's when I worked in the Historic Sites section at the Transportation Museum in Spencer. He was a joy to work with and I was looking forward to talking with him about some displays for the Kannapolis Museum but he left us way too soon. Virgil, you will be missed.

Linda, Sarah, Bucky and family, May God comfort you all. We never know why or when God calls home his children. Just know that God needed another angel. Virgil will be missed by many many people, but we know Virgil is serving his Lord in Heaven now. He is forever burried in your hearts.

Virgil and I met just last year. A day or two later our two families were walking along a mountain trail in the Linville, NC, area. Virgil and I conversed as we walked. Within a short distance I was marveling at how much he and I shared in common, including our faith. In another life we could have been soul brothers. Virgil Smithers was a peaceful, thoughtful gentleman and considerate of others. I should get to know him better; and shall some day. Each one of us should seek to emulate Virgil's fine qualities. My thoughts and prayers reach out to his family.
