Virginia Jo Taylor, 74 went to be with Jesus on Wednesday evening, August 21 with her adoring husband, Richard L. Taylor (Dick) by her side. Hand-in-hand they fought a courageous battle against Virginia’s Parkinson’s disease and heart failure. Together they attended Providence Baptist Church of Raleigh.
Virginia was born in Bradley Co., TN, the first child of the late Kathaleen and Houston Cass and beloved sister of Jimmy, Eddie and Jane Cass.
Virginia was known for her sweet, gentle ways. She deeply loved her husband, Dick-the love of her life for 57 years. She loved her children with all her heart and she nurtured them and raised them up in the ways of the Lord. She adored her grandchildren and always had an open lap or a big hug for them. She was quiet and observant; always listening for ways she could fill needs and share her talents with others. She was a great listener! She had a knack for growing flowers and attracting birds of all kinds to enjoy and marvel over. She was gifted, and she created beautiful things with her hands. She lived to care for her family, and she delighted in cooking Dick’s favorite Depression-Era dishes.
Virginia loved caring for children, and she was gifted in her ability to immediately quiet crying babies with her loving touch. She most recently cared for small children at A E Finley YMCA in Raleigh. In previous years she taught young girls poise, beauty, and healthy-living skills at John Robert Powers School of Modeling.
Now our precious wife, Mama and Grandma is walking with Jesus and loved ones who have gone on before her. She will be deeply missed, and her sweet memory will live on until the day we meet again.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Richard Taylor, Sr.; children, Mara Widner (Russ), Lisa Walker (Allen), Linda Hess (Jim), Richard Taylor, Jr. (Rich); grandchildren, Alison Hunt (Chris), Philip Britt, Jacob Clark, Richard Taylor, III (Trey), Ryan Taylor; siblings, Jimmy Cass, Jane Maupin and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathaleen and Houston Cass and brother, Eddie Cass.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 Wednesday evening, August 28 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh. Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm, Thursday, August 29 at the same location. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
