Gene grew up in Goldsboro, NC and graduated from Goldsboro High School. He attended UNC Chapel Hill and NC State and excelled in Architecture drawing plans for many builders throughout the Triangle area. He loved his work and it showed in every design.
In 1974, Gene met and later married the love of his life, Wanda, whom he was married to for 37 years. His wife, son and daughter-in-law, were the center of his world and it showed every day.
Gene can best be described as devoted, loyal, giving, talented and selfless. He showed these qualities in his interactions with family and friends on a daily basis. He was the most generous of people offering a helping hand when needed. Gene never met a stranger and was always armed with a smile to brighten the moment. He loved to create and design things and could often be found in the garage with a new project at hand.
As Gene dealt with health issues resulting from rheumatoid arthritis for over 20 years, he never let it change who he was as a person. He remained a strong and caring person and loved everyone he had in his life.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Harrelson; his son, Tyler Harrelson and his daughter-in-law, Hayden Harrelson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
His family will receive friends on Monday, May 20, 2013 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh NC 27609. Please join the family for a Celebration of Gene’s life at Vinnie’s Steak House on Six Forks Rd., following the visitation.
