Bethany Grace Brownfield was born in Red Bluff, California on November 18, 1984 to Delbert and Jodeane “Jody” Brownfield. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 22, 2023 after a brave battle with cancer and heart disease.
She graduated with Distinction and Honors from Red Bluff High School in 2003 and was a Lifetime Member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Honor Society. After high school, Bethany went on to become a Certified Massage Therapist, a vocation she enjoyed tremendously until physical limitations forced her to curtail her career. Because of her minimal vision, Bethany studied Braille from the age of four. She was fluent in Braille and loved to share her knowledge to anyone that was interested. Bethany was also technologically gifted and could figure out how to operate anything with a computer chip. She was known to call Apple Support and share with them ways in which they could make their devices more accessible for the visually impaired. And incredibly, Bethany enjoyed riding her quad-runner around her ranch, with one of her loyal dogs always seated alongside her.
Still, Bethany’s greatest past-time was baseball. She was an avid baseball fan and could recite any baseball statistic, and let you know the hot prospects for each team. Over the years she built and maintained a massive baseball card and signed memorabilia collection. Most of all, she loved the New York Yankees. We have peace knowing that Bethany is probably sitting on George Steinbrenner’s lap telling him about baseball strategies and playing catch in a perfect body with her all-time favorite players: Mickey Mantle, Bobby Mercer, Thurmond Munson, Babe Ruth, and other Yankee greats. Years ago, George Steinbrenner noticed Bethany at Yankee Stadium and had her escorted up to his personal clubhouse in his private elevator. He recognized greatness! A couple of years later, he stopped and signed a Yankee’s pinstriped jersey for her, and then had several other Yankee greats sign it, too.
In addition to her parents, Bethany is survived by her brother, Nevin Brownfield and sister-in-law, Taj Alavi Brownfield. She is also survived by her nephew, Oliver Brownfield and niece, Hana Brownfield, and her beloved grandmother, Patricia “MaMa” Peters. And, lifelong friends Gary and Heather Prinz and sons. In addition, Bethany is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Bethany also leaves behind her beloved service dog, Abby, who was her faithful companion and escorted Bethany everywhere. They shared a very special bond. Most importantly, Bethany loved the Lord and her family infinitely. Bethany will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her, however, we are not saying “Goodbye”, but rather “See you later our Sweet Girl.”
A Celebration of Bethany’s life will be held on April 28, 11 AM at the First Church of God, 750 Luther Road, Red Bluff, CA. Bethany had a great love for animals, and in lieu of gifts/flowers, please donate to the Tehama County Animal Shelter.
