Born in Stigler, Oklahoma to Luscious and Reba Wehunt, Bill and his family moved to the Cuyama Valley when he was just two years old in 1945. His childhood and schooling was spent in Cuyama, where he graduated from Cuyama High School in 1962. The Cuyama Valley and his experiences growing up there remained cherished memories for his entire life.

In 2004, Bill retired and moved near his birthplace in Oklahoma where he spent his days enjoying his dear friends and adopted family, fishing, working on various projects, as well as being a volunteer sheriff. Bill spent his last few years happily reunited with his first wife Leslie in Cottonwood, California.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert, and son Chris Wehunt.
He is survived by his sister Dortha, his children Vicki Etchart, Eric Wehunt, and Anthony Armstrong, numerous grandchildren, and his first and last love, Leslie Kirkpatrick Merriweather.
