He was born February 18, 1943, to Eddy and Marion "Mickey" Jakez. Mac proudly served in the United States Army and retired after 21 years of service. A retired service member and business owner of Monument Security, Mac was an avid golf hustler, card shark, and enjoyed reading to "stay sharp and stay educated."
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ruth McDonald; sister, Melody Stott; and children Scott McDonald, Cynthia McDonald Buie, Christopher Harris, and Jennie Thompson. He was a grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 2, and is also survived by his dog, Gibson, who will receive Mac's favorite recliner.
Mac will always be remembered as a man of many achievements, awards, and honors in his lifetime. Proudly serving our country, achieving the highest levels of education as a proud alumni of Arizona State, and a business owner and operator.
Mac loved to be with family, especially taking everyone's money on card nights. He will forever be known for his sense of humor—often drawing you in with a serious tone, just to entrap you and drop a one-liner. Mac was a great man, with much to be said about him, but how do you fit a lifetime of memories and greatness into a paragraph? His life lessons, memories, and legacy will be remembered, passed down, and never forgotten. The sprinkler heads that he ran over with the lawn mower will never forget either.
With all jokes aside, Darwin—Mac—Mr. McDonald was a man of many hats, with many hats. Sadly, the day has come that he put his hat up for the last time, after a long battle with cancer. Upon his death, he asked to inform everyone: "I told you I was sick."
At the request of Mac, no services will be held. Instead, he wished to simply be cremated and returned home for his final resting spot, where a memorial site will be for Mac along with other family members who have passed.
On behalf of our family, we would like to thank everyone for your friendship, support, and kind words through this troubling time that falls on us all. We would like to encourage everyone to come visit our memorial site—even just to find a laugh or try to hit the green on 18.
