Gayle Harris Giberson died after a brief illness on May 22, 2021. He was a thirty-year resident of the Red Bluff area.
Gayle was born on October 19, 1950, in Seattle, Washington, to Lloyd E. and Gertrude L. (Wilson) Giberson. At the age of four, Gayle moved with his family to southern California. The Giberson family lived in several places in California, including the San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco South and East Bay, and Humboldt County areas.
After attending high school in Martinez, California, Gayle worked as a truck driver and in the construction trades until his retirement. He was forced into an early retirement due to physical disabilities he incurred while working.
Despite experiencing a challenging life, Gayle was widely known as a kind and gentle person, thoughtful and considerate of others, rarely complaining, and thankful for what he had in life. He demonstrated incredible courage, poise, strength, grace, and dignity while battling the lung cancer to which he finally succumbed.
During his final days, Gayle was surrounded by his loving family. Shortly before his death, he was baptized into the Roman Catholic faith by Father John Healy of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Red Bluff.
Gayle was preceded in death by his life partner, Laura A. Pelusi, in 2014; his stepdaughter, Candida K. Pelusi, in 1996; and by his stepson, Robert H. Taylor, Jr., in 2007.
He is survived by his son, Michael K. Giberson; his four older brothers, Dennis, Michael, Mitchell, and Kenneth and their families; his 102-year-old stepmother, Eleanor Giberson; Laura’s daughters and their families in North Carolina; many grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins; and several dear friends.
Donations in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
