Helen was a devout Christian all her life and her family smiles knowing she is singing, playing piano and dancing away in heaven with those who went before her.
Helen grew up on Owl Creek, in Wyoming, located near the Padlock Ranch and attended 1-room schools. One of those schools was moved and is currently a part of the museum in Thermopolis. Her family name is referenced there.
Helen married in 1950 in Thermopolis where her two daughters were born. Her husband’s line work took them to California. A house was built on property they purchased in Palermo where they raised cattle and olives. It was at this time she went back to school, learned to speak and write Spanish while earning her high school diploma.
Helen was a member of the Cowbelles and was selected as “Cowbelle of the Year” for her work compiling a scrapbook, and for going into the local classrooms teaching students the benefits of eating beef.
When her husband retired they moved to Cambria where she was very active in the Episcopal church, singing in the choir and taking on every position within her church. She was one of the charter members of the now popular Cambria Chorale; the first meeting was held in her home.
The past 10 years Helen has had her home with her oldest daughter, husband and family in Paynes Creek and Red Bluff, California.
