John served in the United States Army for two years. He lived in Red Bluff, California for his last 50 years and worked as a logger for John Wheeler Logging for 43 years, a long and steady vocation that reflected a life shaped by commitment, endurance, and pride in honest work.
John is survived by his son, John Sylvia Jr and his wife Barbara of Dunsmuir, California; his spouse, Lynda Abel of Red Bluff, California; his sisters, Caroline Sanders of Yreka, California, Joann Smith of Yreka, California, and Dellia Hanke of Gustine, California; grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, John and Agnes Sylvia; sisters, Marjorie Smith and Vivian Marsh; step-sisters, Dolores and Sybill Willis; and brother-in-laws, Norville Hanke, George Smith, Don Marsh, and Bob Sanders.
