called her a friend, passed away peacefully at age 87 in Red Bluff on Sept. 8, 2026, surrounded by her family after a long illness.
Born Patricia Ann Mannix on June 14, 1939, in White Plains, New
York, she grew up with four brothers and three sisters, one of whom,
Eileen, passed at a young age. Their father Martin was a radio
broadcaster who died unexpectedly, leaving his wife Trudy, a
nurse, with seven children. Pat, the oldest girl, became a responsible older sister to her young siblings. She graduated high school from
St. John’s Academy in Plattsburgh in 1957 after being a cheerleader
and honor student. She graduated from Loretta Business Institute in 1959 and got a
job as a secretary at the Diamond International plant in Plattsburgh,
where she met Bill Davies, an engineer at the plant. She became his
secretary, and at age 21 married Bill on June 18, 1960. They had three
boys, Mike (1961), Dave (1962) and Pete (1964).
Bill’s engineering skills led the company to transfer the young Davies
family to Red Bluff in 1965, where Diamond also had a plant. Bill worked
as a civil engineer, while Pat raised the boys and found time to volunteer with Children’s Home Society, the Catholic church all the while making lifelong friends.
Pat’s life had long been centered by her love of the church and of playing music.
While in Red Bluff, she learned how to play the church organ which began a
career of more than 50 years playing piano and organ for masses, births,
weddings, funerals and musicals.
Pat’s daughter Beth was born in 1969 and while the boys were running
around Northern California playing ball, wrestling and getting in
trouble, Pat raised her kids and began a stint as Director of the Red
Bluff chapter of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). Pat welcomed all
the kids who joined the group and helped with spiritual growth and fun
regionals and the annual convention in Sacramento.
Pat started a catering business in 1978. She also began a career of helping with the annual musical productions at Mercy High School.
In 1987 Pat began making daily round-trip visits to Chico State
where she earned her bachelor's degree in music theory and religious studies in 1991.
Pat completed her teaching credential in 1992 and worked as a teacher at Mercy High from 1992 to 1995.
Bill died in 1996, while Pat began welcoming grandchildren into the
world. She got her chaplain degree from UC Davis and worked as a chaplain at St.
Elizabeth Hospital and gave communion to Catholics until recently.
Pat retired as a chaplain but continued with her musical pursuits.
Pat also became an associate of the Sisters of Mercy and will be buried alongside the sisters she loved so much.
Pat had a grand piano in her house on Treasure Drive and would practice
for her difficult performances and play for family and friends. Pat had a friendly, outgoing personality and caring nature that endeared people to her almost immediately. She delighted in organizing social engagements and thoroughly enjoyed food, conversation, and music no matter the occasion.
Pat’s son Mike died in 2020, while Pat is survived by brother Tom and
wife Betsy, brother Tim and wife Cathy, sister Molly and husband
Marlon, sister-in-law Judy Mannix, son Dave, son Pete and his son C.J.,
daughter Beth and her husband John and their children Jack, Patrick and
Maura, and Mike’s daughters Sarah, Erin and Megan, along with many
nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at
Sacred Heart Catholic church on Main Street in Red Bluff. Following burial at St Mary's Cemetery, a reception will be held at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall.
