Dave Jens Jensen passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer on Saturday August 25, 2012. Dave was born February 14, 1925 in Nebraska.
After high school, Dave moved to Omaha where he met his wife to be, Phyllis, on a cross country bus. Dave caught sight of the long brunette hair, and was smitten. Fifty-seven years together, and by his side helping in the Ministry and many activities, she and Dave were called to serve. Their special gift was their son David born in 1947. Dave has a close attachment to his brother Mel Jensen, whom he and Phyllis helped raise to an adult.
In 1946 Dave and Phyllis moved to California and Dave began working for PG&E. Dave worked for Twelve years as an accountant, and in 1958 worked in management, retiring in 1983 after thirty-seven years. During his employment with PG&E Dave was accepted into the Lions organization. Dave heard the wonderful things the Lions organization could do for the community. His passion was their various Eye Sight programs. During his years with the Lions he helped collect 220,000 eye glasses. Dave and Phyllis would load up their motor home each year and travel to Mexico and distribute, and work in the Lions eye glass clinic. Dave was often heard to say, "The Lions organization put wheels to my faith". Dave became District Governor of Lions at age 29, and traveled throughout California and many other areas in his various capacities in the Lions organization. In 1983 the Lord placed another hand on Dave and he achieved his Pastor license in 1984 and served for ten years bringing the Lords work to the smaller communities around Redding. Dave helped start a church in Lewiston and French Gulch. Dave has served in just about all capacities at the Redding First Baptist Church since becoming a member in 1958. He had been active in the local United Crusade, Salvation Army, the Chamber of Commerce and many other organizations in the Redding area. Through his work at PG&E, he taught self-improvement classes and became President of the local Chamber of Commerce. After the death of Phyllis in 2000, he married his second wife Lurena and they were able do some traveling until she suffered a stroke.
