July 12, 1927 - December 15, 2011
Eunie passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 15th, with her loving husband of 65 years, Bill, and her devoted niece, Rondi, by her side.
Eunie was born on July 12, 1927 in Olinda, California. She was the fourth of five children born to Synneva and C.E.A. Ulberg. She spent her youth in Olinda where her parents owned and operated a country store.
She was the ultimate tomboy with a soft spot in her heart for small animals especially kittens. She attended Olinda Elementary School and Anderson High School and graduated from Shasta High School in 1945.
During her senior year went to work for the Shasta County Clerk's Office and Harrisons Men's Store.
At Anderson High School in 1943, on a dare from her sister Marian, Eunie asked a classmate, Bill, on a date. In the summer ofb1944, the store burnt down and Eunie had to go live with her aunt in Redding and had to change schools. Bill left school and joined the Merchant Marines. On September 1, 1945 Bill and Eunie were married at Eunie's parents home in Redding. After they were married, Bill started working with his father, "Boss" Guill, in the trucking business, while Eunie continued to work at the courthouse. They moved into a tiny 12' x 16' house on Church Street in Anderson and their first son, Ron, was born in 1948. Not to long after Ron's birth, Eunie began driving school bus for Anderson Elementary School. She was one of the first school bus drivers in Anderson. She drove school bus for more than eight years, bringing Ron and their second son, Steve, who was born in 1952, with her. Shortly after Steve was born, Eunie and Bill started their own trucking business. While Bill drove truck, Eunie kept the books, washed the trucks every week, scheduled the loads, and hand lettered the company name (Bill Guill Trucking) on all the trucks. She did all this, while managing to take her boys to bowling tournaments, little league games and squirrel hunting expeditions. She also made her own in-ground swimming pool, which was the first one in Anderson. In 1962, Eunie became the general contractor and chief painter in the construction of the couple's new home and truck shop on Locust Road in Anderson. For the next 24 years, Eunie continued to help Bill run their trucking company, which eventually included 18 trucks.
Eunie loved the slot machines and everyone knew never to get in her way when she was playing. She had the uncanny ability to pick the right machine every time.
She had a lifelong love of fancy and fast cars and never drove a dirty one!
Eunie also loved her yard and swimming pool and was very particular about how everything looked and was still painting the house, raking leaves and mowing her lawn within days of her passing.
When Eunie's sister, Hazel, passed away Eunie became the surrogate mother for her three young beautiful girls, Rondi, Joni, and Traci. She considered them her daughters and has always been there for them throughout their lives.
Eunie dearly loved her grandchildren, Christopher and Timothy Guill, and her nephew Sean. They loved her in return and always wanted to be around her because she was young at heart and always so full of life. Her two great-grandchildren, Freddie Guill and Alex Guill, felt the same way.
Eunie Guill, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend will be dearly missed.
We take comfort in the knowledge that she lived a full and meaningful life that touched many people and that we were a part of it.
Eunie is survived by her husband, Bill; her sons, Ron (and wife Stacey), and Steve; her sister Marian; her grandsons Chris (and wife Leah) and Tim; her great grandchildren, Alex and Freddie; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Redding Goodwill Mission.
