She was born into a large family in Burwell, Nebraska on March 1, 1915.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, stepdaughter Dixie and stepson Jerry and all of her siblings except her sister, Kathryn of Des Moines, WA.
She is survived by her stepson Don of Bloomington, CA and her only son, Craig of Pearl City, Hawaii, 21 grandchildren, a multitude of great and great-great grand children, many nieces, nephews and cousins scattered around the country.
She was a long time resident of Bloomington and Riverside before moving to Woodland and then north to Redding in 1992.
Besides being a mother, during World War II she was a riveter at one of the many aircraft plants in Los Angles while Paul was a security police officer there. After the war they moved to a chicken ranch in Bloomington and later to the Riverside Cement Plant to run the commissary/cafe. With Paul's health failing they moved back to Bloomington to be near Don.
After Paul's passing Gertie moved to Woodland to be near family, then she decided she would rather live near some of her grand children in Redding.
She was always an active woman, doing crafts, crosswords, knitting and an avid reader. When her age and failing health started to catch up to her, she moved into the assisted living quarters on Churn Creek Road in Redding.
Known to the family as "Grandma Gertie", she loved and was loved by all, she will be sorely missed.
Internment will be with her husband, Paul, in Bloomington at the cemetery located between the chicken ranch and the cement plant where she spent many years of her life.
Good bye grandma, may God Bless and Keep you.
