This is in remembrance to the life of Patrick Murray Nulty. He was born July 19, 1943 at St. Leonards Municipality, New South Wales, in Sydney, Australia. He spent his time in a town called Freshwater New South Wales, just above Sydney on the Manley side on the beach swimming every day in a salt water pool carved out of the rocks, until he sailed to the USA at almost 9 years old. He landed in California growing up in Oakland with his Mother and Sister. He became a United States Citizen July 16, 1957 at 14 years old.
He joined the United States Army January 3, 1963 based in North Carolina. He served in Vietnam where his unit’s responsibility was to make the route safe for the Korean Division coming from the UN located outside of a village called Dun Cay, about half way between An Khe and Qui Nhon in the Central Highland Regions now called the An Khe Pass. The pass was an essential convoy route from the coastal port of Quy Nhon to the US bases in An Khe that consisted of steep and winding mountain roads.
Before returning to Oakland California December 27, 1965, he was awarded a Vietnam Service Medal for his active duty. He returned to Pinehurst, North Carolina because of his love of golf and later graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone North Carolina in 1972 with a BS degree in Business Education and a Teaching Certificate
He then moved back to Vallejo California as an Entrepreneur and opened a Frame/Art Gallery called Picture This. Later moving to Redding California and purchasing a Franchise to operate a USDOT freight carrier delivery trucking company called Ian Nulty Distributing. He provided milk delivery to most local businesses and schools in the Redding area for over 20 years. He resided at 10691 Old Oregon Trail, Redding, California. 96003.
Pat is pre-deceased by his Spouse of 16 years, Lynda Diane Nulty of Redding California, his father Lawrence William Nulty of Broken Hill, New South Wales, Sydney Australia and his mother (Betty) Rudolph Nulty Cruzan of Chicago, Illinois. Pat leaves behind two children; Scott Murray Nulty Butler (Amy) of Rockingham North Carolina and Elizabeth Walker Nulty Conley of North Myrtle Beach South Carolina; and 6 Grandchildren: Robert William Conley, Renee Elizabeth Conley, Alexander Merrill Conley, Samuel Conley Gusler, Garrett Butler and Katie Butler; and two step children Ryan and Dustin Lane of California and many paternal cousins in Australia.
Pat touched many lives on these various shores and will be deeply missed. He will be remembered by his infectious smile and always happy and loving words. Pat will be laid to rest and receive a military graveside service with a Catholic Chaplain for Burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
