Ida May was born in Biggs, CA on April, 29, 1933. She was the fifth child born to Fred and Minnie (Eagleton) Markgraf. She joined three much older brothers, Fred Jr, Larry, and Lowell. A sister, twin to Lowell, died at birth. Being the youngest and only daughter, she was cherished by her family, who came to call her “Babe”. The family eventually settled in Redding, CA, where Fred Sr and his 3 sons started Redding Roofing Co.
Ida May loved to sing, and was taught by her brother Lowell, to play the guitar and yodel. She was a natural entertainer who was comfortable on a stage and in the spotlight. Still in her teens, with her cowgirl-style yodel, that few could match, she entertained at rodeos with gospel and country songs. She sang throughout her life at home and at various venues.
Ida May worked in many fields, including dental, pharmacy, retail and tutoring of college students.
She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her Lemon Meringue Pie was remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting it.
Ida May is survived by her children, Earl Allen (Virginia) Boek, Christine (Rick) Rose, Daniel (Mary Dell) Boek, and Kandra (Solomon) Hatfield, Her nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and their spouses.
She also leaves behind her extended religious family, her caregivers, and many other relatives and close friends and neighbors.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, Claud Solomon, and infant great grandson.
We mourn, and will certainly miss our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Matriarch, and Friend.
