"Jim" James Holt died with dignity on July 16th at his residence in Redding of natural causes. He was 89 years old, born in 1927 in San Francisco and lived all of his life in Redding raised by his wonderful adoptive parents, Norma and James Holt.
He graduated from Shasta High School where he was very active serving as class president, a football player, and a friend to many.
After serving in the Navy, he attended UC Berkeley, majoring in Engineering for a couple of years before taking care of his father's petroleum transportation business in 1949. He was the creator and owner of SST Oil and served as the President of the Western Petroleum Alliance.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Liana Holt-Ochsner (Redding), and 5 grandchildren, Alexandra Ochsner, Hunter Ochsner, Angela Simmons, Jennifer Duncan, and "Jimmy" James R. Holt. He is also survived by great grandchildren: Sebastian Duncan, Kaylee Duncan, and Amanda Barker, and one great-great grandchild, Scott Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Angela Atkins, whom he was married to for more than 40 years and 2 of his children, Debra Holt and James Chesley Holt II. His second wife, "Dorie" Dolores Scoonover, passed away earlier this year.
He was kind and generous to all who knew him.
There will be a graveside service for him at Redding Memorial Park (1201 Continental Street) on July 30th at 10AM followed by a reception at the Elks Club in Redding from 11AM until 2PM.
