
1918 - 2012
John Garrett Fitzgerald was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on January 1, 1918 and passed away on January 21, 2012 at the age of 94.
John attended school in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of WI at Madison with an accounting degree. He later became a Certified Public Accountant. He began his career working for Haskins and Sells Accounting firm in NY and Chicago where he met his wife Paula. They moved to Shasta County in the early 1940s to leave the Midwest winters behind. He was employed as the Finance Officer for Wixon and Crowe Construction Co. who began clearing the area where Shasta Dam is today.In the 1950's he started Fitzgerald Glass Company that he ran successfully for many years. In the 1960s he opened John G. Fitzgerald CPA firm that specialized in the construction industry.
He continued to work into his late 70's. He was very active in the community over the years including the following: Member of St Joseph's Church, "Life Member" of the Knights of Columbus, Long time member of the Riverview Golf and Country Club, Member of the Redding Elks Club for many years, Redding Youth Baseball, Boys Scouts of America, Served on several commissions for the City of Redding. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Paula in the 1970s and 80s He also enjoyed deep sea fishing in Mexico, hunting, photography, and time spent with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Paula Fitzgerald and son Philip Fitzgerald. He is survived by his son Patrick (Sharon) Fitzgerald of Idaho, daughter Paula Fitzgerald of San Francisco, son John (Marcia) Fitzgerald of Lodi, daughter-in-law Becky Wilson (Philip) of Redding; grandsons Brad Fitzgerald (Jennine) of WA, Mike Fitzgerald (Jeni) of ID, and Mark Fitzgerald of Lodi; grand daughter Lianne Fitzgerald of San Diego; niece Merle Nieuwlandt (Terry) of Placentia; four great grandchildren; and his wife Marie of Anderson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lavender Hills Assisted Living for their wonderful care and loving support. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, February 2nd at 7 pm at McDonald's Chapel in Redding. Christian Burial Mass will be held on Friday, February 3rd at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 11am with committal following the service. A celebration of life is to follow at Cattlemen's Restaurant, 2184 Hilltop Drive in Redding. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in John's name to:
