

On December 11, 2019, Leila Joanne Thomas, 85, longtime resident of Redding went to be with the Lord after a brief illness. Leila is survived by siblings, Josephine Thomas, Nola Reano, Derral Price, Moette Musselman, and Doris Byford; her children Katherine (Gary) Giles, Sherri (Randall) Gray, Karen (Gary) Wortham, Tommy (Patty) Thomas, and Ali (Theresa) Abbassi. Leila is also survived by grandchildren Jamie, Anthony, Leila, Page, Rachel, Morgan, Cassidy, Chase, Ali, Mitchell and Courtney, as well as numerous great grandchildren.
Originally born in Oklahoma in 1934, Leila and her family moved west to California when she was just 7 years old where they settled in the San Francisco area. After marrying Tommy H. Thomas, she moved to Southern California where she raised her family. in 1978, Leila returned to Northern California and settled in the Redding area. As a devout Christian and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, enjoyed being a member of several congregations most recently Deer Creek Church of Christ in Shasta Lake City.
A loving mother and grandmother, she was well known for her love of cooking and sharing with others. Also known for her amazing quilting talents, no holiday, birthday or special occasion passed without a child, grandchild or any friend in need receiving one of her special quilts. Always putting others before herself, she was a positive Christian influence to everyone that knew her and will be sorely missed by family, friends and her community.
A celebration of life will be held on January 25, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Deer Creek Church of Christ in Shasta Lake City.
