Maggie “Naomi” Carlton passed away peacefully at the Vistas in Redding, CA on October 3, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Naomi was born on October 27, 1930 to Edward (Ed) and Blanche (Rush) Cahill at home in North Dakota, bordering McIntosh, South Dakota. She was one of 10 children and also called Nebraska home, especially the Woodlake area where she went to school and participated in various shenanigans with her siblings. When she was twenty, she went to Arizona where she worked on the Apache Reservation as a telephone operator. This is where she met John. They were married in Show Low, Arizona at a friend’s home on January 3, 1953. The McCloud River Railroad needed someone who was familiar with all aspects of railroading to represent them in Burney. John accepted the offer and the Carltons moved there in May of 1955. Over the years, she taught guitar to various children. Naomi was well known for her pies and was also a very good cook. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing and various crafts. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents and 8 siblings; also her husband John Carlton. She is survived by her brother, Eddie Paul Cahill, Prescott, AZ; a daughter, Linda Randall, Fort Collins, CO; two sons: James Carlton, Montgomery Creek and Leslie Carlton, Burney; grandchildren: Michele, Jami, Alecia, Tyler, Derrick, Ashley, Maggie; and great-grandsons: Jordan, Justus, Alex, Boston, and Jackson. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Intermountain Baptist Church, 20410 Marquette Street, Burney, CA. Potluck to follow.
