
Robert (Bob) Dennis (Dennie) Prahl, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and dedicated community leader, passed away on August 13, 2025 at Willow Springs Memory Care in Redding California, at the age of 89.
Bob (Dennie) was born in Laramie, Wyoming to John Robert and Maxine Prahl. He attended school in a one-room school where teachers in-training learned their craft before University School was built. After graduating from Laramie High School in 1953, he attended the University of Wyoming before serving in the U.S. Army. Following specialist training, he was attached to the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Beale Air Force Base near Marysville, California. He was honorably discharged in January 1957 and returned to the University of Wyoming, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 1960 and was on the swim team for the University of Wyoming.
Bob began his 38-year career (1960-1998) with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in the Division of Structure. His work took him across the state on bridge and road construction restorations. In later years, he oversaw construction projects across a 7-county region in northeastern California.
Service to his community was central to Bob’s life. He joined the Anderson Lions Club in 1971 and later became a member of the Enterprise Lions Club. Over the decades he served in several leadership roles, including Club President, Zone Chairman, Region Chairman and as District Governor. He attended 13 Lions International Conventions and 2 Canada/USA Forums, received numerous awards and contributed his time to youth programs and special camps for children with diabetes.
Bob is survived by his wife, Susan of 65 years; 3 sons, Scott (Anne) of Portland, OR; Eric (Tracy) of Redding, CA and Aaron (Sheila) of Anderson, CA; his siblings Diann Ginther (Bill) of Laramie, WY and John Richard Prahl (Kathie) of Aurora, CO; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and several cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Robert and Maxine Prahl; several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Family services will be held at a later date.
