Susan Hook Fitch passed on August 26, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on April 24, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Frederick Hook and Betty (Burns) Hook. Moving from Louisiana at a very young age, she was raised in Malverne, New York. After earning her Bachelor of Science Degree at Bradley University she moved to Colorado, where she became an Extension Home Agent in Lincoln County. During that time, she married Charley Fitch. A year later they moved to Santa Ana, Ca and then to Silverado Canyon where their first two sons were born. Susan was very happy to stay home and be a loving nurturing mother to the family. This was despite the women's lib sentiment at the time that belittled women who choose to be full-time mothers. Due to Charley's hob they were on the move again in just a few years to the foothills east of Fresno, where their daughter was born. When her youngest child started school Susan started volunteering in the local schools. This eventually led to her working as a teacher's aide. She worked at schools in Redding and then Douglas City for many years. She especially liked working with children who just needed a little bit more guidance in their approach to learning. She then retired from her career to help raise her twin grandsons.
The highlights of her life were seeing her children and the grandchildren grow and mature. Then seeing them start their families. Her 6th great grandchild was born just weeks before her passing. She was so very pleased!
Her other interests over the years were teaching church school in several different communities along with being a Cub Scout Den Leader and a Girl Scout Leader. Her sewing talents produced many outfits and then started her into quilting. In Redding she joined Curves and enjoyed the friends she found there as well as the exercise. She posted over 3000 visits to Curves. She was also very active in the Redding British Car Club where she hosted many events and enjoyed the scenic drives in Charley's Triumphs.
Susan is survived by husband Charley, daughter Cindy Blanchard (Byron) of Douglas City, son Wayne fo Santa Barbara, Grandchildren: Chad Blanchard (Haylee) of Kalispell, MT, with three great grandchildren, Steven Blanchard (Becky) of Snoqualmie, Wa with three great grandchildren and granddaughter Lindsey Fitch ( Andy Hull) of Snohomish, Wa, her sister Karen Parsons (Tim) of Boise, Id and her close cousin Tracey Fitch of Marysville, Wa.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to either Girl Scouts or your favorite group supporting our children. Professional services were conducted by McDonalds Chapel.
