Wendell V. Goodman, was born October 1, 1929 in Gladstone, MI, in the upper peninsula. He was a journeyman auto mechanic at a young age. When drafted for the army occupation of Japan, he was trained at Fort Sam Houston, in Texas, as an army medic. After his stint in Japan, he returned to MI and then later on was recalled to duty when the Korean conflict errupted.
Upon returning from Korea, he decided to move to Southern California because his family had moved out west. He soon met and married Eugenia Galey, who was also from his home state. They made their home in Manhattan Beach and had four boys. Eric, who preceeded him in death in 1996, Donald of Shingletown, Robert of Los Angeles, and Paul of Eureka. His three grandchildren are: Christopher, Sarah and Marcus.
He worked at Hughes Aircraft, in Culver City, as a fleet maintenance supervisor for twenty eight years. Upon retirement, the couple, and three of their sons moved to Redding in 1991 and built a home near Palo Cedro. He enjoyed the North State because it reminded him of upper Michigan. He liked the small town atmosphere, trees and many camping facilities. He passed away January 5 of respiratory and heart problems. He will be greatly missed by his devoted family. Dell and Eugenia were members of Palo Cedro Church of Christ for many years.
A memorial service will be held at the Anderson Church of Christ, 3434 North St. Anderson on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00AM
