

He was born February 5, 1921 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to the late Joseph and Anna Waisgerber. He was preceeded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Helen Ingle Waisgerber of Corvallis, Oregon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother John and sister Marion Gustafson.
Bill graduated from Oregon State University at Corvallis with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Geology and the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Master’s of Science in Geology.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a proud and distinguished member of the 86th Chemical Mortar Battalion. During his service in the European Theater, he was commissioned as an officer. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1947 as a Captain, Infantry. While on active duty, Bill participated in numerous battles and campaigns, including the Normandy landing, Battle of the Bulge, Battle of the Ardennes and Battle of the Hurtegen Forest. His awards included the Bronze Star Medal for Heroism, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the American Defense Service Medal.
Bill was an engineering geologist by profession and was the owner of a private consulting company in Los Angeles, California. He was active in his local church, the Redding Chapter of the American Legion, and the Military Officers Association of America. He had four passions: The Lord, Country, family and rock-hunting.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Anne Waisgerber of Valencia, California and two sons, Bob and wife Jan Tanner of Redding, California and Bill and wife Sandy Tanner, Katy, Texas; six grandchildren, Genna, Bethany, Mara, Jeremiah, Ryan and Kevin; and his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Mary Lee Waisgerber of Rockland, Massachusetts.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at McDonald’s Chapel, 1275 Continental Street, Redding, California. The Rev. Shawn Hull and Rev. David Stark will co-officiate. A private burial will take place at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery, Igo, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a contribution to the wonderful people who gave such loving care to Bill at Kirkwood Group Assisted Living Community, Warm Blanket Fund, 395 Hilltop Drive, Redding, CA 96003.
