1954 – 2025
Andreas Peter Klemm (Andy), age 70, of Glen Allen, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on May 29, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in 1954 in Stuttgart, Germany, to Gerhard and Gerda Klemm, Andy was raised with strong values of faith, discipline, and perseverance. At the age of 20, he made the courageous decision to move to the United States to attend college on a soccer scholarship.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Southern California College (now Vanguard University) and later a Master’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Arlington. A natural optimist and entrepreneur, Andy held a variety of jobs throughout his life, including many years as a custom clothier. When he became a Real Estate Broker, he built a successful and fulfilling career. His strong work ethic and relational skills brought him many lifelong clients.
Andy was known for his friendly, outgoing personality. He had a unique gift for making people feel welcome and valued, whether meeting them for the first time or sharing years of friendship.
A devoted member of West End Assembly of God, Andy sang in the church choir for nearly 30 years. His deep faith was expressed not only through music but in every area of his life—through his love for his family and his optimistic trust in God’s plan. He also participated in West End’s annual Christmas and Easter productions, adding his musical talent and enthusiasm to these celebrations. Andy enjoyed playing guitar and bass in various bands throughout his life, sharing his love for music with friends, family, and church members. He also had a heart for missions and passed this love on to his children.
In addition to his many personal and professional accomplishments, Andy had a zest for life; he enjoyed sailing, cycling, golfing, kayaking, to name a few. He particularly loved sailing and took family and friends on many adventures.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Meredith Klemm; his children, Anna (Ian) Read, Megan (Zachary) Becker, and Andreas Peter (Mary) Klemm Jr.; and his treasured grandchildren, Adelaide, Evelina, Eden, Seraphine, Gilead, and Osric Theo. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara (Stefan) Sos, Gabriela (Hans) Reimann, and Angelika (Folker) Schack, along with many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Gerda Klemm.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home. Interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Roselawn Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating Andy’s life and faith will be held at 1:00 p.m. the same day at West End Assembly of God, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West End Assembly of God Music and Fine Arts department or the Missions department, both of which were dear to Andy’s heart, or Circle Center Adult Day Services, 4900 W. Marshall St., Richmond, VA 23230.
Andy will be remembered for his love of outdoor sports - especially German soccer - joyful spirit in worship and sense of humor. His love of the Lord and his amiable nature were evident to everyone he met.
