Ann was preceded in death by her daughter, Velma Diane McDonnell; her first husband, Carl F. Almarode; and her second husband, Myron J. Helms.
Throughout her working life, Ann served as a medical secretary at Richmond Memorial Hospital, a role that reflected her steady dedication and the quiet care she brought to those around her. She also gave generously of her time as a FISH operator and as a member of the Board of Directors for FISH, offering compassionate service and dependable leadership to her community.
A faithful member of New Bridge Baptist Church, Ann was active in the WMU church group and Sunday School classes. Her life was marked by love, kindness, and a sincere concern for others—qualities that shaped her as a wonderful wife, mother, and friend.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Carl Bruce Almarode (Wendy) and Lawrence Nixon Almarode; her grandchildren, Carl Almarode Jr., Robert “Bobby” Everton (Holly), Jennifer Suddeth, and Michael Suddeth; her great grandson, Declan Tait; her brothers, William Nixon (Paula) and Silas Nixon (Gisela); as well as a host of extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. in Unionville Christian Church Cemetery, 23286 Village Road, Unionville, VA 22567.
