Thanks to everybody for their sympathies and condolences. He is a great man and we will miss him very much to we are with him again.

My deepest condolences to Peggy, children and all of Toby's family I am sure he will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the Mathews family on their loss.  His passing is a loss to the Law Enforcement Community (Henrico County Police and Henrico County Sheriff's Office), the Special Forces Association, and the State of Virginia.  He was a family man, a Quiet Professional, a leader, and one who looked out for his fellow man.  He cared about his people, from the Deputy up to the top of the chain of command, he will be missed.

Learning of Arthur "Toby" Mathews' passing on 9/24 is very sad.
                                       My heart goes out to his wife Peggy, his children and their families, relatives, and everyone affected. 

I did not have the privilege of meeting "Toby", but I've always known his wife Peggy.  Peggy and I grew up in Burke's Garden.

I am saddened to hear of Toby's passing. He was one my first supervisors 47 years ago and later the commander,of my platoon. He was always pleasant, fair and treated his people well. Additionally, he was a standup guy, always decisive in emergency situations. My deepest condolences to his family.

Dear Family,
      We were saddened to hear about Toby's passing.  He was such an asset and inspiration to so many through his work in Law Enforcement and to me in his Ruritan work.  I know that his illness paid a toll on him and the entire family.  We are experiencing Alzheimer's in our family and know how difficult this illness can be on everyone.
