Benjamin Cleveland LaPrade, Jr.

LaPrade, Benjamin Cleveland, Jr. departed this life on January 16, 2017. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Reed LaPrade and his parents, Benjamin and Mildred LaPrade. He is survived by his children, Brian C. LaPrade (Amy), Renee E. Collier (Warren), Troy W. LaPrade (Malinda); grandchildren, Courtney Collier, Brittany LaPrade, Brian LaPrade, Jr., Liz LaPrade, and Julia LaPrade. He was a graduate from Varina High School where he then preceded to play football for Kansas State University and the University of Richmond. He was a pipefitter and member of Local Union #10 for 52 years. He loved to fish and hunt and was a lifelong member of Curles Neck Hunt Club. He was a recent inductee into the Varina Sports Hall of Fame which he really cherished. He loved all the memories and telling stories of all the children he coached in baseball and football throughout the years. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on January 21, 2017 at Nelsen Funeral Home 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond Va. 23231, where a funeral service will take place Sunday, January 22, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.
